Is depreciation and amortization the same thing? I think that depreciation is for the fixed assets but what about amortization? How can I calculate the amortization expense?
No they are not the same thing as they relate to different assets. Depreciation is charged for physical (tangible ) assets. Amortization is charged for intangible assets such as licences.
