Are operating expenses cost of goods sold?

Are cost of sales or cost of goods sold included in the operating expenses or are these two completely different things?

No operating expenses are cost of goods sold are not the same thing. Cost of goods sold include for the example the cost of the material bought to manufacture a product. Operating expenses on the other hand can include the payroll, the electricity costs, the insurance costs etc.
