What makes an asset an non current as opposed to a current asset? What kind of assets are usually included in the non current assets line? Are all investments that are held in other company non current?

A non current asset as a result from past events and is expected to bring economic value to the company in more than twelve months. Examples of non current assets include:
-Fixed Assets
-Long Term Investments
-Goodwill acquired in other businesses
-Brands Acquired
-Patents Acquired
-Exclusive Rights to produce etc

If the asset is expected to bring economic benefit after a year from the reporting date, then it is a non current asset.
