The accounts payable ledger is the ledger where all the credit sales are recorded. When a credit sale is made the accounts payable ledger is credited with the amount of the purchase. If a credit sale is repaid, a debit is made to reduce your accounts payable (reduce the liability) by the amount you have paid. The closing balance is included in the balance sheet at the year end and it is also the opening balance for the following financial year.
