It depends. My best bet would be that you can build a portfolio of securities that will include both stocks and bonds which can be safer than both of them. Bonds can be issued by governments and by companies. Stocks are shares in a company. Government Bonds tend to be less risky than stocks but there are exceptions. You should also consider that if you hold a bond and a stock in the same company and the company bankrupts, your bond will be paid first since creditors are paid before the owners of the company.
